When humanity crumbles,

what’s left in the ashes?

Human stories written by human hands, just as it should be.

Rust 'n Dust Publishing is an independent publisher focused on stories born amidst ashes and forged in the wastelands, where the human spirit is pushed to its breaking point. Raw. Brutal, without corporate filters or sterilization.

We accommodate a wide variety of genres, but our core selection draws from dystopian, post-apocalyptic, speculative fiction, horror and sci-fi. We encourage and frequently utilize elements of many other genres, but at the heart of each of our works is the human struggle against the unknown and the overwhelming.

A desperate father cradles his daughter in blood soaked arms, staring down a racing clock. Cities burn behind him, generations laid to waste, ravaged by an unknown virus. The outback, feral and scorched, sprawls towards the horizon. Toward salvation.

23 hours.

Deep within the halls of a towering mountain compound, a lone survivor fills another syringe. Her lab coat covers a gnarled, pockmarked scar. Another failure lies on her table. Another soul lost.

22 hours.

The screams of the infected grow louder. Closer. He needs to run. Needs to fight, or die trying.

DEAD ECHOES

By Jarrod McCutcheon

Hope Monash is Iritjinga’s last Revenant. The final scion of her doomed cult. Dissected and remade in the image of her brutalist society, she is an abhorrence given soul, given purpose — one she has all but failed.

Her home burns. Her kin lie as carrion. Yet in the face of her destined martyrdom, she finds herself spared death by a stranger; one promising a chance at redemption, and retribution.

Through rusted urban sprawls, phosphor-scarred suburbs and the corruption of an all-consuming plague, Hope must march a tooth-and-claw road to atonement, all the while hunted by the sadistic enclave that scourged her people.

And as old-world sins and buried truths threaten the chains keeping her human, she must decide how many she’ll break in her crusade to pay back those that ravaged her world; blood for blood.

Carrion Stars

On a forgotten world under the pale glow of a dead sun, four prisoners hurtle planetside to recover vital fuel for the vessel that has condemned them. They are worthless scum, expendable souls, promised retribution in service or deliverance in death. Their only future is a decaying vessel limping across the still-twitching corpse of the galaxy. Their only hope is each other, and the violence of a species rotting from the inside out. They must face the reality of life, twisted by the Pale Embrace of the Carrion Stars, or perish in the hollow glow of a universe ravaged by eldritch entropy.
