Bacteriophage

24 hours.

A desperate father cradles his daughter in blood soaked arms, staring down a racing clock. Cities burn behind him, generations laid to waste, ravaged by an unknown virus. The outback, feral and scorched, sprawls towards the horizon. Toward salvation.

23 hours.

Deep within the halls of a towering mountain compound, a lone survivor fills another syringe. Her lab coat covers a gnarled, pockmarked scar. Another failure lies on her table. Another soul lost.

22 hours.

The screams of the infected grow louder. Closer. He needs to run. Needs to fight, or die trying.

DEAD ECHOES

By Jarrod McCutcheon

To most, Hope Monash is a Revenant. The final line. An unyielding stalwart. She is among the last of a line of martyrs buried in Australia’s ashes, a soul dissected and remade in the image of her people’s creed. But to her kin, she is a coward — a failure, one entirely out of her depth.

Hope is one of thousands of survivors left stranded in the city of Iritjinga; a relic of an isolationist society hardened by necessary brutality. What remains of humanity persists out of hatred, fuelled by the rhetoric and fervour of their dead nation’s dogma and doctrine. What remains of their fight is a line drawn in dust, against a malignant biological corruption, and those who would see the world burn to completion.

With her home put to the torch by hands from beyond Irit’s shores, Hope is forced to defy her own weakness, and confront the darkness of her world as it comes undone. From rusted urban sprawls to phosphor scarred suburbs, she marches a tooth-and-nail road to retribution, atonement, and survival itself. Together with the damned souls that follow her, their doomed crusade will take them to the brink to pay back those that took everything from her; blood for blood.

Review copies coming mid 2027.

Carrion Stars

On a forgotten world under the pale glow of a dead sun, four prisoners hurtle planetside to recover vital fuel for the vessel that has condemned them. They are worthless scum, expendable souls, promised retribution in service or deliverance in death. Their only future is a decaying vessel limping across the still-twitching corpse of the galaxy. Their only hope is each other, and the violence of a species rotting from the inside out. They must face the reality of life, twisted by the Pale Embrace of the Carrion Stars, or perish in the hollow glow of a universe ravaged by eldritch entropy.
